Double Bonus - Game Guide

Video poker is based on five card draw poker. The game sets up almost exactly like five card draw poker but while in draw poker the most cards that a player can exchange is three, in video poker, after making a wager, the player can decide to exchange all five cards.

In Double Bonus video poker, players can double their winnings by choosing a card that’s higher than a card in their winning hand during a bonus round! If you’re feeling lucky, you can double a third, fourth or fifth time!

Double Bonus - How to Play

The player first must decide to bet one of the units or the max units. In the online casino, the minimum credit bet is 25 cents. The player can bet the maximum, $5, on each game. To Bet Max, the player will want to change the coin value from 25 cents up to $1. The max coins played is 5. So, if the coin value is changed up to the max, $1 per coin, then 5 x $1 is $5.

Once the player has decided at what value coin and to play one unit or the max units, the player hits the deal button. Five cards, like in five card draw, will appear. The player then decides what cards to hold. The player can decide to hold all five cards or exchange up to all five cards. Once the player receives her new cards, the game is over with the player being paid out according to the payout table.

The main variation with Double Bonus is that before the payout the player can decide to double the winnings. The player hits the Double button. The player then must decide which card out of four down cards is higher than the up card. The up card is always the card furthest to the left. If the player chooses a card higher in value than the up card, the player doubles her winnings! But if the player chooses a card lower in value than the up card, the player forfeits her winnings. If the player successfully doubles the winnings, the player is faced with the decision to try to double the winnings again. For example, if the player wins $5 and successfully doubles the winnings, the player now wins $10. Should the player choose to double the winnings again, the player will be risking all $10 to try to win $20.

Double Bonus – Strategy/Tips

The strategy in Double Bonus follows the strategy in Jacks or Better. Up until the bonus round, players should definitely stick to Jacks or Better strategies. Payouts don’t start until you get a pair of Jacks. So, in most cases you don’t want to get rid of your Jacks. The video poker machine gives you tips during gameplay on what cards to hold, but you should still know basic poker payout rules in order to succeed at any video poker game. See below for a glossary that should help you figure out what’s a straight, three of a kind, a flush, full house, etc.

When it comes to video poker Double Bonus, always double your winnings up to a particular monetary value. For instance if you win $15, you will want to take the chance to double your winnings up to $30. If you win $45, you might not want to take the chance on doubling your winnings to $90. It depends on your risk appetite.

One note is that the only reason to play Double Bonus is to look to double your winnings. You will want to approach the game with a risky attitude. If you don’t have a risky attitude, the online casino offers plenty of video poker games that you might be more comfortable playing.
